THE GRAVE WINNER
by Lindsey R. Loucks
There were a number of reasons why I jumped at the opportunity to read
this book when the author was giving away RaR copies. First, I really love the
cover of this book. It’s simply amazing. Then, this book was published by
Crescent Moon Press, and I’m a huge fan of one of their releases. So it looked
like I was going to enjoy The Grave Winner, which I certainly did.
It is a well-written YA Paranormal Fantasy, action-packed, with lots of mysteries and plot twists. It’s Book 1 of a series, and I must say I really loved the last chapter and epilogue and would like to read the next book in the series.
I really like the author’s manner of writing – it’s descriptive and full of passion. I especially enjoyed the parts where One and Two appear. IMHO, the author shows her best writing in these parts. The one with Mrs. Star was my favorite part of the book, probably together with the ending.
Why couldn’t I give it top rating? The main reason is the book didn’t really (I mean, really) grab me until I got to 28% of the book where it turned to unputdownable. There was not enough tension or intrigue. Also, I wanted to know more about Sarah. Who was Sarah? Why did she commit suicide? Should I really care about her? I definitely enjoyed the parts where Sarah was coming to Leigh to warn her of something evil that was about to happen.
The Grave Winner is a must-read for young adult readers. I would like to thank the author for the copy of this book.
